FLY REPELLENT - SAFE for HORSES and Other Animals
Pat from Oregon gave us this information. "I use the Shaklee Basic H spray for all my animals as needed... for horses, sheep, dogs, cats, cows, chickens, humans and any animal that needs bug protection or cleaning."
"It works wonderfully as others have said for bathing animals, but I use a slightly diluted mixture in a spray bottle with a "pointy top" so that I can direct the mixture where needed and control the amount. It also helps when they are taller than me...and to get it on their legs, tails etc."
"It takes VERY LITTLE to make a good suds. If I have an animal that is jumpy, I will dilute the mixture more, so I don't waste it if they are moving around."
"For FLY SPRAY, I use 4 oz. of Basic H to 12 oz. of water in a 16 oz. spray bottle. I rub my hand over the spot I'm going to spray (especially if a horse is jumpy) so it feels something touch it on THAT SPOT, then spray the spot...AND RUB THE SPOT AGAIN with my hand to transfer it into the hair. It seems to work much better, plus this helps to keep the animal calm."
"For best results, do it every day and just use a light spray. (It will dry and flake if you use too much.) We get lots of rain in northern Oregon! I will make it a little stronger if this mixture doesn't keep the bugs away." (NOTE: Because Basic H -full strength on the skin - can be used as a mosquito repellent for humans, this diluted mixture should not hurt the horse or other animals.)
"It is amazing to watch the flies being repelled by the horses!" Pat, Oregon - Selene, California

George and Dede Shaw, owners of race horses, have been using the following program for their horses. They are not prescribing or recommending or even suggesting that any other individual use this product or procedure on their horses.
STANDARD MIXTURE OF SUPPLEMENTS FOR HIS HORSES:
1 can 36 oz. Vanilla Protein Powder 1 - 2 jars 240 Vita Lea Vitamins 2 - 3 jars 700 Alfalfa Tablets 1 jar Calcium Magnesium
Grind all tablets into powder. That is easier for the horse to consume. Mix all of the above together and store in old protein cans or in a plastic garbage bag. This mixture will be enough for about 6 weeks at a total Retail price of $130 or the Member Price of $110.
George gives his horses 1/3 to 1/2 of a cup mixed in with their feed in the morning and late afternoon.

SPECIAL CASES - ADDITIONS
|
|
For Special Cases, the following are recommended as additives into the STANDARD MIXTURE:
HORSES WITH VIRUSES, DISTRESS, IN TRAINING (Preventative): Add a large jar of 500 IU Vita C. It helps the horse's immune system. Even though the animal makes its own Vitamin C, this helps enhance what the animal already has.
HORSES THAT ARE LAZY OR HYPERACTIVE (and/or Nervous): They are often given 1 - 2 oz. of Liqui-Lea in the feed. This is good for increased hemoglobin, due to the iron in the Liqui-Lea. Also, a large jar of B Complex is added to the STANDARD MIXTURE.

OPTIONAL ADDITIONS TO MIX
|
|
VITA E - Added to the STANDARD MIXTURE for endurance.
PHYSIQUE - Given after the workout or race to help improve recovery and tone muscle mass.
PERFORMANCE - is given to reduce chances of dehydration (especially in Lasex Horses).
FOR COLIC - Put 35 Herb Lax in a cup of water and syringe in mouth.
Health results are simple: 1) A decrease in doctor expenses. 2) A bone density increase, thereby lessening the chance for breaking and soft tissue damage. 3) And, if injury does occur, recovery is faster and more thorough.
